History has Company!!!

HISTORY HAS COMPANY!!

Just an hour ago news broke that Blair Wilson, Independent MP – and former Liberal MP- for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country crossed the floor to THE GREEN PARTY OF CANADA.

Canada has the first GREEN MP in history. I'm writing this sporadically between group cheers and screams of joy. To be honest, I'm still in shock. This is one of the most monumental days in my life. I'm a historian and political scientist by academic training and the realization that history books will have to now be revised, is well, heavy and heartening news! Wade in this moment friends, take it all in. It doesn't get any better.

Lets face it, a general election just means that Canada will have 10 MPs in Parliament rather than four from the by-elections. I wonder how good Steve, Jack and Stephane feel right now. Certainly not as good as we all do.

Of course, this is all because of you. It's because of all of us. This would have never happened without the dedication and perseverance of Greens since the party was founded at Carleton University in 1983. We can all share in this victory for the Greens and for our country. I like asking people when I canvass: when you think about Canada two, five, or ten years from now, is it the Canada you want it to be without Greens in Parliament? After today, I won't be able to ask that question. Green MPs will be a reality.

We all know that this completely changes the complexion of the general election. The Media Consortium's stranglehold on democracy just lost its strength. ELIZABETH WILL SPEAK. Canadians want to and deserve to hear her voice on the leaders' debates, and because of Blair Wilson, they will get to.

Blair just moments ago noted that “Joining Elizabeth May and joining the Green Party feels a lot like coming home.” Welcome home Blair, we hope you stay a while!

We just made history my friends, we just made a green come true, we just got our first Green MP!!
